We were commissioned to develop a sensitive proposal to renovate and extend Egerton Cottage situated in the conservation area of Burton Overy; a quaint village in the Leicestershire countryside. The intent from the outset was to improve the cottage’s compatibility with modern living while maintaining it’s charm and character.
By re-configuring the internal layout, attaching a two-storey extension to the rear, adding a spacious single-storey extension to the side with feature glazing and a comprehensive patio creating the focal point of the external space, the cottage’s capacity and usability improved exponentially.
The material palette was greatly dictated by the existing to maintain the traditional aesthetic. This includes rustic red brickwork along with exposed timber throughout the single-storey extension and porch while incorporating expanses of glazing to create light and spacious living areas.
The result for our Client is a three-bedroom cottage with an inviting entrance, expanded living capacity and a welcoming, modern communal hub to satisfy the demands of family living for decades to come.
