From the outset, the design brief was three-fold: to increase capacity for the client, to create a more open and flexible living space and to create an aesthetic that would retain the character of the already attractive property.

The proposal implemented a form to the front that very much followed the precedent set by the adjoining terraced houses. This was to maintain uniformity as seen from the public highway but did also incorporate a new porch for improved presence in the street scene.

Extrusions were added to the rear in the form of a single-pitched, single-storey extension and a dormer which included significant expanses of glazing to add light and a sense of airyness, particularly to the dining/living space on the ground floor.

Ultimately, all parties involved achieved a renovation with extensions which fully hit the brief and more, adding to this character-filled pocket of Shipley.
